PROGRESSIVE
OPINION AND NEWS
FROM
THE DAILY BEAST (I JUST LOVE THAT NAME) COMES A VERY INTERESTING LOOK AT
THE INTERACTIONS BETWEEN BERNIE AND BIDEN, AND BERNIE AND THE WORLD. COLBERT IN
HIS INTERVIEW AND MATT WILSTEIN THE WRITER SEEM ANXIOUS TO GET SANDERS INTO A
POSITION OF GIVING UP HIS OWN VIEWS AND PERHAPS HIS PRICELESS MAILING LISTS, AS
WELL AS STEPPING ASIDE, SO BIDEN CAN PLAY THROUGH AND USE THE PROGRESSIVE
VOTERS’ PERSONAL INFORMATION ALSO. THAT IS WHAT THE DNC FOLKS TRIED TO GET BERNIE
TO DO IN 2016 AFTER CONCEDING TO CLINTON. IT DIDN’T WORK THEN. WILL IT WORK
NOW?
BERNIE’S
ANSWERS TO THE QUESTION ARE BEING TREATED AS THOUGH THEY ARE EVASIVE, BUT IT
READS TO ME MORE LIKE A CLEAR AND DETERMINED STATEMENT THAT BIDEN WILL HAVE TO DO
TWO THINGS -- MOVE “IN A MORE PROGRESSIVE DIRECTION” AND ATTRACT AND TAKE IN [PROGRESSIVE]
“NEW PEOPLE,” BEFORE MANY OF THE SANDERS VOTERS WILL SUPPORT HIM ON ELECTION
DAY. IT MAY ALSO MEAN THAT, NO, SANDERS’ “FULL-THROATED ENDORSEMENT” MAY ALSO
BE CONDITIONAL. I BELIEVE THAT IS BERNIE’S RIGHT.
I
ALSO SEE THAT TO BE ANY MORE “AGREEABLE” THAN HE HAS BEEN ALREADY IN ORDER TO
MAKE THE PRESS OR THE DNC LIKE HIM BETTER IS A LESS THAN INTELLIGENT AND ESSENTIALLY
WEAK POLITICAL MOVE. WHAT DOES HE HAVE TO LOSE AT THIS POINT? HE STILL HAS HIS
IDEAS TO PROMOTE AND SOLIDIFY IN AMERICA’S CULTURAL MIX -- HIS “REVOLUTION” -- AND
MOST OF US DO STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT THEY ARE THE RIGHT IDEAS. THAT’S EXACTLY
WHY WE ARE BEHIND HIM.
WHAT
I WANT TO KNOW IS HOW MANY THERE ARE OF US AND CAN WE BE SUFFICIENTLY COMMITTED, DETERMINED AND ORGANIZED TO SET UP A LEGAL BODY OF PROGRESSIVE VOTERS WHICH IS SEPARATE
FROM THE ORIGINAL DEMOCRATIC PARTY. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A NEW AND INCLUSIVE ORGANIZATION
WHICH WILL GATHER MEMBERS, RAISE MONEY, EDUCATE THE PUBLIC, WRITE BOOKS AND
ARTICLES, DEBATE ISSUES AND NEWS EVENTS, MAINTAIN INTERNET WEB SITES FOR NEWS
UPDATES AND COMMUNICATION, RUN AND ELECT MEMBERS TO OFFICES FROM THE TOP TO THE
BOTTOM, AND OTHERWISE ACT LIKE A FULLY FLEDGED POLITICAL PARTY. THE DEMOCRATIC
PARTY HAS HAD OUR UNQUESTIONING SERVICE AND OUR MONEY FOR TOO LONG. THEY THINK
THEY CAN DEPEND ON IT EVEN IF THEY DO NOTHING TO EARN IT. FOR INFORMATION ON
WHAT POLITICAL PARTIES ARE REQUIRED TO DO, SEE: https://www.fec.gov/help-candidates-and-committees/registering-political-party/qualifying-political-party/.
Stephen
Colbert Grills Bernie Sanders: Are You Endorsing Biden or Not?
‘A
DECENT HUMAN BEING’
“Is
that a full-throated endorsement of Joe Biden?” the “Late Show” host asked
Sanders in his first interview since exiting the race.

– COLBERT AND BERNIE SANDERS INTERVIEW, CBS
In
his first interview since dropping out of the presidential primary campaign,
Senator Bernie Sanders (D-VT) beamed into Stephen Colbert’s house on The Late
Show. And the host’s big question was all about the “presumptive nominee” Joe
Biden.
Asked
if he’s spoken to the former vice president since making his decision to exit
the race, Sanders said yes before quickly pivoting to what separates the two
men as opposed to the many things that unite them.
“It’s
no great secret that Joe Biden’s politics are different than mine,” he said.
“But I have known Joe since I came to the Senate in 2006, worked with him when
he was vice president in the Obama administration.” As he did in his address to
supporters earlier in the day, Sanders called Biden a “decent human being” and
added, “I hope to be able to work with Joe to move him in a more progressive
direction.”
Calling
Biden a “good politician,” Sanders said that Biden “understands that in
order to defeat the president, that in order to defeat Trump, he’s going
to need to bring new people into his political world” and “start
moving in a different direction than he has in the past.”

With
all of that in mind, Colbert asked Sanders directly, “Is that a full-throated
endorsement of Joe Biden?” The host began to smile as Sanders evaded the
question.
“We’re
going to be talking to Joe and we are talking to his team of advisers,” Sanders
said before repeating his promise to do “everything that I can to make sure
that Donald Trump is not reelected.”
“I
will do everything I can,” Sanders said, “but I will say that we’re
talking to Joe and talking to his team about how we can work together.”
