THE BLOOMBERG PLAN AND THE 21ST CENTURY BILL OF RIGHTS
COMPILATION AND COMMENTARY
BY LUCY WARNER
FEBRUARY 19, 2020

THIS MINI-BLOG CONSISTS OF ONE NEWS ARTICLE, A RECORDING OF BERNIE’S MOST IMPORTANT SPEECH ON DEMOCRATIC SOCIALISM AS HE ENVISIONS IT, AND A BIT OF RESEARCH. IT HAS A GOOD DEAL OF WHAT TO ME IS NEW INFORMATION IN IT, AND THE SUBJECT IS SOMETHING THAT WILL BE CONSIDERED, BY SOME ANYWAY, TO BE IMPORTANT.

TO ME AND MOST BERNIE FOLKS, BILLIONAIRES SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED LEGALLY TO BUY THEIR WAY INTO THE OVAL OFFICE, OR ANY OTHER POSITION OF POWER. ASSUMING THAT BLOOMBERG MAY HAVE A GOOD IDEA OR TWO, THOUGH, I AM TRYING TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT HIM THAN I HAVE EVER KNOWN BEFORE. THE PHOTOGRAPH OF HIM PLAYING GOLF, AND SEVERAL OTHERS LIKE IT, WITH DONALD TRUMP DOES MAKE ME ANGRY. OF COURSE, BLOOMBERG ISN’T A “REAL” DEMOCRAT OR REPUBLICAN, BUT LIKE ELIZABETH WARREN AND SOME OTHERS IN GOVERNMENT HAVE BEEN ON BOTH SIDES OF THE FENCE.

THE ORGANIZATION CALLED BLACK GUNS MATTER WAS THE SUBJECT OF THE DISAGREEMENT FROM A SANDERS RALLY ON FEBRUARY 17, WHICH CAUSED A FIGHT BETWEEN A SANDERS LOYALIST AND A “BLACK GUNS MATTER” MEMBER. THAT YOUNG MAN WAS, FOR WHO KNOWS WHAT REASON, BOOING AT THE SANDERS SPEECH, WHEN ONE BEGAN TO UPBRADE THE OTHER VERBALLY. AFTER A FEW SENTENCES OF THAT, X SHOVED Y THROUGH A METAL BARRIER AND THEY BEGAN TO FIGHT IN EARNEST. IT WAS VIOLENT, BUT THEY WERE SEPARATED QUICKLY, SO THERE WASN'T TOO MUCH DAMAGE DONE. THE VIDEO, A LITTLE OVER A MINUTE LONG, IS IN THE ARTICLE. I SUGGEST YOU TAKE A LOOK AT IT.

FRIENDS FROM BOTH SIDES PULLED THEM APART AND SECURITY SEPARATED THEM TO DIFFERENT AREAS OF THE CROWD. NEITHER WAS EXPELLED OR INJURED. THAT WAS ALL THERE REALLY WAS TO IT, EXCEPT THAT THE PRESENCE OF A PERSON WHO SEEMS TO BE BEHAVING IN A HOSTILE FASHION TOWARD BERNIE OR TRUMP OR ANY OTHER GROUP OF LOYAL FANS WILL CERTAINLY CAUSE CONCERN AND VERY POSSIBLY ANGER UNDER THOSE CIRCUMSTANCES.

THE DISCUSSION BETWEEN MAJ TOURE OF BLACK GUNS MATTER ABOUT MICHAEL BLOOMBERG IS MUCH MORE INTERESTING THAN THE BRAWL WHICH STARTED AT A BERNIE RALLY YESTERDAY.

'Super-frisk is their name': Black Guns Matter founder mocks potential Bloomberg-Clinton ticket

African-American gun rights activist Maj Toure mocked the prospect of a Michael Bloomberg-Hillary Clinton presidential ticket, saying that both Democrats have pursued policies that have been harmful to the black community.

"If they team up super-frisk is their name forever," joked Toure on Fox Nation's "Deep Dive" on Tuesday.

The remark was a reference to Bloomberg's support for the "stop and frisk" policing practice that rose in prominence in New York City and Hillary Clinton's labeling of some African-American youth as "superpredators" during a 1996 speech in New Hampshire.

Toure is the founder of Black Guns Matter, a gun-rights group that "educates people in urban communities in all 50 states on their Second Amendment rights and responsibilities through firearms training and education," according to its website.

Now a newly resurfaced clip of Bloomberg discussing a multimillion-dollar initiative to help young men has raised new concerns about his approach to minority communities.

In the 2011 clip, Bloomberg said, "There's this enormous cohort of black and Latino males age, let's say 16 to 25, that don't have jobs, don't have any prospects, don't know how to find jobs, don't know what their skill sets are, don't know how to behave in the workplace."

"What do you think when you see that?" asked Wall Street Journal editorial page assistant editor James Freeman.  "You say his heart's in the right place and he's bad at expressing things, or you say this is not a good guy and he can't be president?"

"I think he's an elitist that has no attachment to the community," said Toure. "He has this white savior complex like he wants to come tell all of the black and brown people that you guys don't know anything."

"It's downright offensive," agreed former FBI terrorist task force member and adviser for the Trump 2020 campaign, Steve Rogers. "Obviously, I'm white. I was offended by that. Why? Because I happen to know a lot of minority corporate executives, teachers, professors who contribute so much to this country."

"I know what he was getting at because I saw him put this stuff into effect," said Mark Glaze, who is a former Bloomberg aide and executive director of Everytown for Gun Safety, which Bloomberg founded and chairs.

"There is an absence of programs that will allow folks who are in that so-called 'cohort' to actually get into the economy, stay there and keep moving up, which is why he did things like start the Young Men's Initiative in New York City that later became a model for the Obama administration programs," argued Glaze.

BLOOMBERG EXPECTED TO TAKE INCOMING FIRE AT DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE IN LAS VEGAS

Freeman suggested that a new political ad from the Bloomberg campaign may be meant to "counter" the impression that Bloomberg harbors stereotypes against minorities.

The commercial showed Bloomberg announcing a strategy to address the wealth gap between white and black communities, called the Greenwood Initiative.*

"The wealth gap is inextricably linked to the racial inequalities of the past," said Bloomberg in the ad, "And I'm determined to make breaking that link a centerpiece of my presidency."

"The reality is, when he was in a political position, he supported policies that he admitted disproportionately affected, negatively, black and brown people," said Toure in reaction to the video. 'We know how this goes in the 'hood, everybody says anything in an election cycle."

At the site of the Black Wall Street Massacre* in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Presidential candidate Mike Bloomberg announced the Greenwood Initiative: Economic Justice for Black America. Mid-January, Bloomberg addressed the biases stifling the Black community and countering the issues with future plans that will create generational wealth through ownership.

“Even though Greenwood was called ‘Black Wallstreet’ it wasn’t full of bankers; it was really just a thriving upper-middle-class community where people worked hard, played by the rules and believed that they could get ahead,” Bloomberg stated in the opening of his speech. “In other words, it was just like many places across the country. Except it was a Black community.”

He continues explaining the depths of the attacks; homes ruined, businesses burned to ashes and families broken apart killing more than 200 Black residents. Recalling a personal account from a diary of an individual who experienced the massacre. Bloomberg expressed his confusion and disdain for the results of years of negligence and abuse towards the Black community.

“For hundreds of years, America systematically stole Black lives, Black freedom and Black labor. Theft of labor and a transfer of wealth enshrined in law and forced by violence,” he stated. “The impact of that theft over a period of centuries has meant an enormous loss of wealth from individuals and families across generations.”

“It’s time to say enough and do something about it,” he proclaims. “The challenge of African American wealth creation today is inextricably linked to the racial inequalities of the past.”

The Greenwood Initiative, broken into three parts intends to lay a path to create nearly one million Black homeowners and 100,000 Black business-owners over the next decade. The initiative also includes a $70 billion investment in the countries most disadvantaged communities nationally.

Bloomberg believes homeownership is the way to build generational wealth, through the Greenwood Initiative. He aims to provide down payment assistance, enforce fair lending laws, reduce foreclosures and evictions and increase the supply for affordable housing.

The second aspect, increasing the number of Black business-owners is set to be accomplished by setting up user-friendly one-stop shops for entrepreneurs, expanding the access to mentorships and incubators* and Black-owned businesses, increase access to capital and by supporting Black-owned banks. The efforts will also give much focus to Black women as they are now the fastest-growing group of entrepreneurs.

Lastly, Bloomberg’s plan to invest $70 billion into neighborhoods that need financial assistance includes, identifying 100 cities nationwide that the most disadvantaged. This plan also includes the creation of the Neighborhood Equity and Opportunity Office (NEOO) which will set the agenda, authorize spending and guide implementation and manage the evaluation of the effort.

“That will reduce but not eliminate the wealth gap between White and Black families, but it will build the momentum we need to close it entirely someday,” Bloomberg said.

“Achieving these goals will help our country begin to confront the legacy of what Frederick Douglas called the sin and shame of America … the time has come to fully commit ourselves to acknowledging our history and righting our country’s wrongs.”

Throughout the years Bloomberg has faced his fair share of critiques. As Mayor of New York, many policies implemented led to the over-policing of Black and Brown people. In his speech, he opens up about the effects stop-and-frisk policy had on citizens. He stated once he realized it cause more harm than good, he removed the law in efforts of bettering the lives of those targeted.

“I was wrong not to act faster and sooner to cut the stops, and I’ve apologized to New Yorkers for that, and for not better understanding the impact it was having on Black and Latino communities,” he explains. “I’ve always believed, though, that leadership involves listening to diverse opinions, and acknowledging when you didn’t get them right, and learning from it. That’s what I’ve always tried to do.”

With the Greenwood Initiative, Bloomberg promises to farther [sic] right the wrongs of not only his decision making but that of America’s history. Through inclusion, he claims to make each level of the community apart [sic] of his decision-making process, which will ultimately affect voters and citizens in every state.

“Our plan will empower each group to play an important role, and our work will benefit all Americans who have been subject to discrimination and bias.”

“Black history is American history,” he says in his closing. Finalizing with an acknowledgment of the contributions Black Americans have made in our history.

“Even as they knew they would be deprived of their fair share of the rewards, from our country’s first days Black Americans found hope and kept face in the promise of equality embedded in the Declaration of Independence. When war came, as it did in every generation, they signed up to fight on the front lines,” he said.

“To me, there is no greater patriots in America’s long history than the Black citizens who are willing to die for a nation that was denying them their rights.”

EVERY TIME I THINK I’VE HEARD THE WORST, I LEARN SOMETHING ELSE. I WISH I DIDN’T BELIEVE THIS TO BE A REALLY BASIC PART OF HUMAN NATURE. I WANT TO SEE US AS BEING ENLIGHTENED BEINGS, OPEN-HEARTED AND GENEROUS, BUT THAT VIEW IS A MYTH. STILL, I HAVE HOPE THAT WITH THE REMOVAL OF ABJECT FINANCIAL NEED, IGNORANCE AND MENTAL ILLNESS, WE CAN MAKE PROGRESS. WITH SANDERS’ “21ST CENTURY BILL OF RIGHTS,” OR “ECONOMIC BILL OF RIGHTS,” WE COULD MAKE A START.

I DO THINK THAT CRUELTY OF THIS KIND IS THE RESULT OF ENVIRONMENTAL INFLUENCES MORE THAN INBORN EVIL. JEALOUSY, THOUGH, IS REAL, A STORY OF CAIN AND ABEL.

THE DOMINANT GROUP IN A HIGHLY CLASS-DIVIDED AND COMPETITIVE SOCIETY, UNDER STRESSFUL SITUATIONS, WILL ALMOST CERTAINLY COME TO EXPECT AS THEIR DUE, THE RIGHT OF BULLYING AT WILL AND SEEMING TO BE MORE SUCCESSFUL THAN A DESIGNATED SET OF VICTIMS. WHO THEY ARE AT ONE TIME OR THE OTHER IS ALMOST A FILL IN THE BLANK QUESTION. IT’S THE BASIC SITUATION THAT PLAYS OUT THE SAME WAY OVER AND OVER. IF BLACKS WERE DOMINANT AND WHITES WERE THE "LOWER" CLASS, THEY WOULD ALMOST CERTAINLY BE THE AGGRESSORS RATHER THAN THE OTHER WAY AROUND. THE KEY LIES IN THE MAINTENANCE OF INEQUALITY AS A MARK OF STATUS. IN THAT SITUATION, IF AN INTERLOPER, I’LL CALL HIM ABEL, DARES TO MESS UP THAT “NATURAL” STATUS ORDER BY BEING BORN INTO THE FAMILY, THEN SOMETIMES A CAIN WILL SEE FIT TO KILL HIM.

MY PERSONAL HOPE AND BELIEF IS THAT IN A BETTER CONDITIONED SETTING, THE INDIVIDUALS WHO CREATE A GROUP WILL BE MORE MENTALLY HEALTHY AND THEREFORE MORE CAPABLE OF SELF-CONTROL, EVEN IF THEY DO FEEL JEALOUS, THAN TO BECOME A PART OF DESTRUCTION LIKE THIS. SPIRITUAL PURITY ISN’T POSSIBLE, BUT BASIC DECENCY AND SANITY ARE. SEE THIS INFORMATION FROM WIKIPEDIA ON GOOD AND EVIL.

THE BLACK WALL STREET MASSACRE*

Tulsa race massacre
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Tulsa race massacre (also called the Tulsa race riot, the Greenwood Massacre, or the Black Wall Street Massacre) of 1921[9][10][11][12][13][14] took place on May 31 and June 1, 1921, when mobs of white residents attacked black residents and businesses of the Greenwood District in Tulsa, Oklahoma.[1] It has been called "the single worst incident of racial violence in American history."[15] The attack, carried out on the ground and from private aircraft, destroyed more than 35 square blocks of the district – at that time the wealthiest black community in the United States, known as "Black Wall Street".

More than 800 people were admitted to hospitals and as many as 6,000 black residents were interned at large facilities, many for several days.[16][17] The Oklahoma Bureau of Vital Statistics officially recorded 36 dead, but the American Red Cross declined to provide an estimate. A 2001 state commission examination of events was able to confirm 39 dead, 26 black and 13 white, based on contemporary autopsy reports, death certificates and other records.[1]:114 The commission gave overall estimates from 75–100 to 150–300 dead.[1]:13[1]:23

The riot began over Memorial Day weekend after 19-year-old Dick Rowland, a black shoeshiner, was accused of assaulting Sarah Page, the 17-year-old white elevator operator of the nearby Drexel Building. He was taken into custody. A subsequent gathering of angry local whites outside the courthouse where Rowland was being held, and the spread of rumors he had been lynched, alarmed the local black population, some of whom arrived at the courthouse armed. Shots were fired and twelve people were killed: ten white and two black.[18] As news of these deaths spread throughout the city, mob violence exploded.[2] White rioters rampaged through the black neighborhood that night and morning killing men and burning and looting stores and homes, and only around noon the next day Oklahoma National Guard troops managed to get control of the situation by declaring martial law. About 10,000 black people were left homeless, and property damage amounted to more than $1.5 million in real estate and $750,000 in personal property (equivalent to $32.25 million in 2019).

Many survivors left Tulsa. Black and white residents who stayed in the city were silent for decades about the terror, violence, and losses of this event. The riot was largely omitted from local, state, and national histories.

In 1996, seventy-five years after the riot, a bipartisan group in the state legislature authorized formation of the Oklahoma Commission to Study the Tulsa Race Riot of 1921 (renamed Oklahoma Commission to Study the Tulsa Race Massacre, in November 2018). Members were appointed to investigate events, interview survivors, hear testimony from the public, and prepare a report of events. There was an effort toward public education about these events through the process. The Commission's final report, published in 2001, said that the city had conspired with the mob of white citizens against black citizens; it recommended a program of reparations to survivors and their descendants.[1] The state passed legislation to establish some scholarships for descendants of survivors, encourage economic development of Greenwood, and develop a memorial park in Tulsa to the riot victims. The park was dedicated in 2010.

NOW FOR SOMETHING NICE TO THINK ABOUT. THIS STORY ON BUSINESS INCUBATORS IS HOPEFUL. I THINK IF BILLIONAIRES WANTED TO COOPERATE WITH BERNIE SANDERS AND SET UP SOME OF THESE INCUBATORS TO FOSTER NEW BUSINESSES, THAT WOULD BE A GREAT THING, AS LONG AS THEY DON’T TRY TO TEAR DOWN MCD, MCR, SS, SSI, FREE EDUCATION, UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE AS A HUMAN RIGHT, THE GREEN NEW DEAL, AND OTHER SYSTEMS OF AID TO HUMAN BEINGS OF ALL RACES, AGES AND TYPES. IDEAS ARE GREAT, BUT WITHOUT GIVING PRACTICAL BENEFIT TO INDIVIDUALS THEY ARE AS SOUNDING BRASS.

INCUBATORS*

Business incubator
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

“A business incubator is a company that helps new and startup companies to develop by providing services such as management training or office space.[1] The National Business Incubation Association (NBIA) defines business incubators as a catalyst tool for either regional or national economic development. NBIA categorizes their members’ incubators by the following five incubator types: academic institutions; non-profit development corporations; for-profit property development ventures; venture capital firms, and combination of the above.[2]

History

The formal concept of business incubation began in the USA in 1959 when Joseph L. Mancuso opened the Batavia Industrial Center in a Batavia, New York, warehouse.[8] Incubation expanded in the U.S. in the 1980s and spread to the UK and Europe through various related forms (e.g. innovation centres, pépinières d’entreprises, technopoles/science parks).

The U.S.-based International Business Innovation Association estimates that there are about 7,000 incubators worldwide. A study funded by the European Commission in 2002 identified around 900 incubation environments in Western Europe.[9] As of October 2006, there were more than 1,400 incubators in North America, up from only 12 in 1980. Her Majesty's Treasury identified around 25 incubation environments in the UK in 1997; by 2005, UKBI identified around 270 incubation environments across the country. In 2005 alone, North American incubation programs assisted more than 27,000 companies that provided employment for more than 100,000 workers and generated annual revenues of $17 billion.[10]    . . . .  Incubation activity has not been limited to developed countries; incubation environments are now being implemented in developing countries and raising interest for financial support from organizations such as UNIDO and the World Bank.”
